Now it’s time to take all of that content and leverage your presence by running targeted ads on Facebook and Instagram.


No NKOTB fans here? Ah, well. Whether you’re an Advertising Novice or a Marketing Maven, Ads Manager is your starting point for Facebook advertising for dermatologists, and with this easy step-by-step guide, you’ll be posting in no time!

  • Step 1: Create your Ad Account – In addition to your business Facebook page, you’ll need a verified form of payment. If your page was created by someone else, you’ll need to be added as an admin, editor, or advertiser in order to access the ads platform.

  • Step 2: Open Facebook Ads Manager – If you’re using a desktop or laptop, you can access by bookmarking this link, or navigating to the left sidebar, and selecting Ad Center, then All Ads, Ads Manager. For mobile users, you can download the Meta Ads Manager app from the Apple or Android store. 

  • Step 3: Create your Ad – Once you click “Create”, you’ll be directed to the next step, selecting one of the three campaign objectives. This allows Meta to better track your ad responses and create analytics. Giving you the biggest bang for your buck, start by selecting Awareness to increase the exposure and reach of your practice. Give your campaign a name that makes it easy for you to distinguish one campaign from the next.

  • Step 4: Set the Budget – Choose the max amount that you’d like to spend, selecting from a daily budget or lifetime expense. Facebook will determine the best time to post your ads in order to maximize your exposure.

  • Step 5: Select your Target Audience – Facebook allows you to choose from a number of qualifiers to determine who sees your ads. You can select location, age, gender, languages, interests, behaviors and much more! For repeat targeting, you can create custom audiences that make it even easier to run future ads.

  • Step 6: Choose your Ad Placements – Since Facebook and Instagram are interconnected, you can select where your ad will run, whether Facebook or Instagram news feeds, Video feeds, or the right hand column on Facebook. The subject and look of your ad can help you get creative with placement.

  • Step 7: Create your Ad – Now that you’ve got all the housekeeping out of the way, here’s where you are going to actually create your advertisement. You can select “Use Existing Post” to turn a previous post into an ad, or you can follow the prompts to select from one of the preset ad formats. All you’ll need to do is input your information and upload photos or videos to use in your ad.

  • Step 8: Place your Order – You’re ready to go! Be sure you proofread and preview your ad before clicking “Publish.” Don’t fret when your ad is not posted right away – Facebook will review your ad to ensure it doesn’t violate community guidelines. You’ll receive a confirmation email when it’s posted, typically within 24 hours.
