Google recently announced they are expanding their Google Shopping access to WooCommerce users. Google will now give WooCommerce stores access to upload their listings directly to Google Shopping for free. This extension will allow these online stores to create shopping ads without leaving the WooCommerce dashboard.

What does this mean for businesses?

Thanks to COVID-19, online shopping has grown substantially. Google Shopping has grown into a major shopping channel. In fact, over one billion shopping sessions happen across Google every day.

That is a level of visibility online merchants cannot ignore. Having products shown on Google gives these shops access to larger audiences and markets.

Before this integration, merchants using WooCommerce would have to try to rank for their products organically or use a paid extension to sync product info with Google. Now they can upload their product listing directly to the Google Shopping tab.

Additionally, merchants will have access to Google Smart Shopping campaigns that will help to boost sales using Google’s machine learning capabilities. Products will be able to be shown across Google outlets such as Google Search, Shopping, Youtube, Gmail, and the Display network. This expansive reach will lead to more sales opportunities for e-commerce stores.

Another benefit of this partnership is these businesses don’t have to go back and forth between multiple interfaces. They can stay right within the WooCommerce dashboard. Making workflows more efficient and direct.

More about WooCommerce

WooCommerce is an open-source e-commerce platform built on WordPress. The company started in 2008 as WooThemes and expanded into e-commerce in 2011. In 2017, the company decided to focus solely on e-commerce products and solutions.

The WooCommerce platform now is used by over 4 million stores worldwide. They support secure payments from major credit card companies as well as 140 payment gateways like PayPal, Apple Pay, and more. Additionally, they have an app that allows shop owners to manage their store from wherever they are. It’s also a personal favorite at Firefly due to its security and compatibility with WordPress.

More about Google Shopping

Google Shopping was launched in 2002 and has gone through a few name changes (Google Product Search, Google Products, and Froogle). It is a platform designed by Google that allows shoppers to find products they are searching for, view pricing, compare between vendors, save favorites, and checkout directly in Google. It’s a great way for users to discover new products and businesses, and a great way for businesses to gain greater visibility and boost sales.

E-commerce Website Development

We are still seeing a strong growth of online shopping even as stores are opening up again post-pandemic. In 2020, online sales increased 32% YoY and were up 39% in Q1 of 2021. Online shopping isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It’s important for brick and mortar businesses to keep up with these recent consumer trends and adapt to the changing marketplace.
